Pine Lake is a private, all sports, 395 acre lake, nestled in West Bloomfield Township, Oakland County, Michigan, USA. Two businesses, Pine Lake Marina and the Pine Lake Country Club are located on the lake. The Pine Lake Property Owners Association, (PLPOA) an elected volunteer lake board, works with West Bloomfield Township for sheriff marine patrol. PLPOA has developed a Lake Management Plan to help control invasive aquatic weeds and maintain water quality as nature allows. Funding for the Lake Management Plan and sheriff patrol comes directly from members yearly dues payments.

5 Universal Actions TO Protect Our Water
Reduce or Eliminate Lawn Fertilizer - the #1 threat to all waterways. Fertilizer feeds aquatic weeds and algae. The West Bloomfield Township ordinance prohibits fertilizer “October 1 through May 1st” and cites “never fertilize within 50 feet of a lake, river or canal”. Inform your lawn service of the ordinance and tell them to remove and bag all leaves in the fall. Leaves & debris left in the lake will produce muck (nature’s fertilizer) and feed weeds.
At the LAUNCH SITE - CLEAN, DRAIN, DRY all boat equipment before leaving the launch to prevent the spread of invasive plant & animal species from one lake to another. The DNR law requires the following prior to leaving the launch site:
Remove all drain plugs and water from bilges, ballasts, and live wells.
Ensure that the watercraft and trailer are free of aquatic organisms and plants.
Never release unused bait into the water
Release fish in the same water they were caught to avoid the spread of invasive species and fish disease.
Pine Lake has seen the negative effects of 3 invasive species 1. aquatic zebra mussels, 2. Eurasian milfoil and 3. starry stone-wort weeds. All are costly to manage.

Firework Debris - Next Day Clean Up
Debris from fireworks leach chemicals into the water that affect water quality and habitat. A West Bloomfield Township ordinance allows fireworks 2 days before and after July 4th and asks users to remove firework debris from the lake the next day.
Aim Exterior Lighting Down & Away From Lake
Night lighting inhibits microscopic animals such as zooplankton, from eating surface algae.
Studies Recommend: Point your lighting toward the land, avoiding the water. Use motion sensors and lights that shine on your property and not across the lake.
